St Vincent School for the Deaf x Nikon School

St Vincent School for the Deaf x Nikon School

On October 22nd, 2024, Nikon South Africa had the privilege of hosting a group of talented photography students from St. Vincent School for the Deaf, located in Melrose, Johannesburg.

From the moment the students arrived, there was an undeniable sense of excitement in the air.

After taking in the artwork, we guided the students to the studio, where the day’s practical session was set to unfold.

Saudiq Davids, our Nikon Imaging Specialist, began by welcoming the students to our premises and explained the order of the day.

He exchanged introductions between the Nikon team and the students and proceeded to explain the settings that would be used in the practical session that would take place.

Saudiq briefly touched on the basics of photography, then proceeded to teach different techniques and settings that can be used in portraiture photography.

They took turns photographing and directing, and had some great ideas for props, lighting and poses. The best images that were taken in the session were from the students own initiatives and creative direction.

From the brief lecture to the practical session, the students were fully engaged and absorbed the knowledge shared with them. We were captivated by their willingness to make mistakes, ask questions, give creative direction and produce amazing photographs.

We thoroughly enjoyed the visit and the joyous atmosphere the learners cultivated throughout the session. We are extremely fortunate to have been given an opportunity to host such a vibrant group of students who are as passionate about photography as we are.

We look forward to seeing the students future works as they continue to #LeadWithNikon
